Connecting to the Vine

Connecting my children to God is one of my highest priorities. I want them to know God for themselves. I want them each to have a relationship with God- to know His voice personally.

How do I do that? It is a question I have asked many times. One I still ask as they grow older.

I will be posting some ideas, devotions, exercises, activations if you will. I hope they are a blessing to you and your children.

This one corresponds with a Bible Study I am doing called Supernatural Mothering: Where God’s Presence and Power Invade Motherhood by Ashley Brendle. I highly recommend it and hope to write here about the things I have learned. I hope to introduce you to the author as well because I had the privilege of doing the study with Ashley the first time. yes first time. I am currently doing it again. Like I said, I highly recommend it.

Supernatural Mothering Kids Activation

Week 1

Your Competence is From God

Introduce the idea of being connected to a vine in an age appropriate way, with objects if possible. ie: a plant, piece of fruit, tree branch

Ask questions: What happens when (object) is removed from the plant? Can it make more fruit? Can it still grow?

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NLT

Apart from the vine, the plant the branches will die.

We need to be connected to Jesus like the fruit has to be connected to the tree. We do not physically die as fast as the plant but we cannot live the full life He wants for us apart from Him giving us the spiritual life to do it.

Share how you connect with Jesus. Share how being connected to Jesus has produced fruit in your life.

Ask Jesus to share with each of you how He sees you connected to Him.

Have your children draw or write if they can. Record their thoughts and insights about what they heard or saw. If your children are too young to talk ask Jesus how he sees each of them connected to him.

Pray and declare over yourself and your children the truths Jesus revealed about your connection to Him.

Hang the pictures to remind you how Jesus sees you.

I hope this will be helpful in connecting your children with God. I would love your feedback on if this is helpful, what is missing, any constructive ideas for improvement. I also ask that if you find it helpful and share it you keep my name attached. If these ideas add value to your family they will likely become part of a future book. I look forward to hearing about your experiences with God and your children!
